After a successful premiere at the Berlinale (Label Europa Cinemas Award, C.I.C.A.E. Award), this year’s German Oscar contender and absolute winner of the German Film Awards is coming to the big screen in Zagreb. Director İlker Çatak introduced himself to ZFF audiences with his short film When Namibia Was a City… (Golden Pram 2011), now arriving with a fascinating drama about the idealistic high school teacher Carla, who takes on an investigative role when one of the students is accused of theft. In her desire to protect the student and discover the truth, Carla soon finds herself in hot water.

İlker Çatak is a screenwriter and director born in Berlin. He graduated in film direction from the Hamburg Media School. He won the ZFF Golden Pram in 2011 for his short When Namibia Was a City…. He has directed a number of features: Once Upon a Time… India (2017), I Was, I Am, I Will Be (2019) and Stambul Garden (2021). His latest film, Teacher’s Lounge (2023), premiered at this year’s Berlinale.
