Middle-aged Gunnar leads a quiet solitary life on his farm in the midst of the Icelandic idyll. When the government forces him to move out due to the construction of a new dam, Gunnar is forced to move to the city. Moving to his new apartment, Gunnar tries to get used to city life. But he’s been alone for too long and is not used to human interaction. Everything will change when he meets his 10-year-old neighbour Ari. A frustrating meeting at first will turn into an unusual friendship that will transform them both. This warm-hearted and melancholic debut feature from director Ninna Pálmadóttir (All Dogs Die – ZFF 2020) premiered at the Toronto IFF. The script was written by Rúnar Rúnarsson (2 Birds – ZFF 2008; Vulkan – ZFF 2012; Vrapci – ZFF 2018; Jeka – ZFF 2019), well known to ZFF, whose audience has followed his career since its, and the Festival’s, beginnings.
