Masterclass: Bettina Böhler

In cooperation with the Croatian Film Editors’ Association (HFM) and Croatian Film Directors’ Guild, a masterclass will be held by the prominent and award-winning German editor Bettina Böhler, nicknamed in the media as the incredible invisible woman of German cinema. In conversation with moderator Iva Ivan, Bettina Böhler will talk about her work on the films Western and Afire, her rich experience working in film, the challenges of being an editor and her repeated collaborations with directors such as Margarethe von Trotta, Valeska Grisebach and Christian Petzold.

Bettina Böhler
Bettina Böhler (1960) is a German film editor, born in Freiburg and raised in West Berlin. As an editor, she worked on more than 90 feature films and documentaries. She is a longtime collaborator of directors such as Christian Petzold, Valeska Grisebach, Angela Schanelec, Margarethe von Trotta and Oskar Roehler. At the 2020 Berlinale, she presented her first directorial title, a documentary about the German film and theatre legend Christoph Schlingensief. She is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, European Film Academy, and Akademie der Künste Berlin.

She was born in Zagreb in 1984. She graduated in psychology at the Faculty of Humanities and editing at the Academy of Dramatic Art. She has edited various film and television projects. The films she edited have screened and won awards at international film festivals such as the Tallinn Black Nights, Sarajevo Film Festival, the Auteur Film Festival in Belgrade, International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, DOK Leipzig, Makedox, etc.
