The digitally remastered classic by Bato Čengić at ZFF

06. September

The cinematic gem of former Yugoslavia Life of a Shock Force Worker by Bosnian-Herzegovinian director Bahrudin Bato Čengić is beeing screened in the remastered 4K version in the Venice Classics program at the 80th Venice Film Festival. After screenings at Sarajevo Film Festival and Venice, the film will be screened in its restored glory in Zagreb as part of the Network of Festivals in the Adriatic Region at Zagreb Film Festival.

Life as a Shock Force Worker was filmed in 1972 as a STUDIO FILM production from Sarajevo and premiered that same year. Based on the script by Branko Vučićević and inspired by the lives of miners who were, thanks to their effort, portrayed as heroes in the early years of socialist Yugoslavia, such as Alija Sirotanović to whom the film is dedicated.

Adem Čejvan portrays the miner, who despite his prestigious title lives a humble and not at all glamorous life. Other actors appearing in the film are Zaim Muzaferija, Stole Aranđelović, and Dragomir Bojanić. Karpo Aćimović Godina is the director of photography.

The initiator and leader of the project is the Slovenian Cinematheque, in partnership with the Film Center Sarajevo, Film Archive Austria, and Croatian State Archive. It is financially supported by Creative Europe MEDIA and the Slovenian Ministry of Culture.

The Network of Festivals in the Adriatic Region is a regional festival founded in 2021. Five festivals from five countries come together in this joint venture – the Sarajevo Film Festival (BiH), Auteur Film Festival (Serbia), Montenegro Film Festival (Montenegro), Ljubljana International Film Festival (Slovenia) and Zagreb Film Festival (Croatia).
