The race for the Golden Pram continues at CineStar Branimir, Pedro Almod\u00f3var\u2019s queer western at the Museum of Contemporary Art, and premiere of the digitally restored classic by Bato \u010cengi\u0107 dedicated to Alija Sirotanovi\u0107 at Kinoteka<\/strong><\/p>\n

The first festival day at CineStar Branimir<\/strong> brings two Croatian premieres of films from the feature competition. The British film How to Have Sex<\/em><\/strong><\/a> by Molly Manning Walker<\/strong>, which won the Un Certain Regard Award in Cannes and which Guardian describes as an \u201ceducation in consent for party people\u201d, screens at 6.30 PM. The film will be presented by producer Emily Leo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Accompanied by director Vladimir Peri\u0161i\u0107<\/strong> (Ordinary People<\/em> – ZFF 2009), lead actor Jovan Gini\u0107<\/strong>, and co-producer Ankica Juri\u0107 Tili\u0107<\/strong> (Kinorama), at 9 PM we will screen the Croatian premier of Lost Country<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, an authentic story about a conflict which arises when personal values and love clash. Young Serbian actor Jovan Gini\u0107 won two awards for his portrayal of Stefan – the Rising Star Award in Cannes and the Heart of Sarajevo for lead actor, and his mother is played by Jasna \u0110uri\u010di\u0107<\/strong> (Quo Vadis, Aida?<\/em>).<\/p>\n

Tuesday at ZFF brings three powerful titles from the Great 5 <\/strong>program. Winner of the Palme d\u2019Or, Anatomy of a Fall<\/em><\/strong><\/a> by Justine Triet, <\/strong>screens at Kinoteka cinema at 5 PM. This dark and intriguing drama with elements of a psychological thriller swept the French box office! Pedro Almod\u00f3var\u2019s <\/strong>lavish short film queer ode to the western genre, Strange Way of Life<\/em><\/strong><\/a>,<\/em> screens at 8.30 PM at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MSU), followed by Upon Entry<\/em><\/strong><\/a> by Alejandro Rojas <\/strong>and Juan Sebasti\u00e1n V\u00e1squez, <\/strong>a tense minimalist drama of \u201csuperb performances, micro-controlled editing and an unrelentingly claustrophobic atmosphere which amplifies universal airport anxieties into a whole movie\u201d (Screen International).<\/p>\n

The Together Again<\/strong> competition program starts at 6 PM at MSU, and first among many competitors for the Golden Bicycle is Teachers\u2019 Lounge<\/em><\/strong><\/a> by \u0130lker \u00c7atak<\/strong>. This thrilling drama in which school power games are reflected on society is the German Academy Award candidate and the absolute winner of German film awards. The brilliant Leonie Benesch<\/strong> (Babylon, Berlin, The White Ribbon<\/em>) is the lead actress.<\/p>\n

The Network of Festivals in the Adriatic Region<\/strong> program brings a film lovers\u2019 treat in Kinoteka Cinema at 8 PM – a screening of the restored cinema jewel of former Yugoslavia, the film Life of a Shock Force Worker <\/em><\/strong><\/a>(1972) by Bato \u010cengi\u0107<\/strong>. The digitally restored 4K version of a razor-sharp satire dedicated to the mining superstar Alija Sirotanovi\u0107 which some consider the pinnacle of the black wave will be shown at ZFF immediately after its premiere at the Venice Film Festival!<\/p>\n

The short film competition program starts at Kinoteka Cinema at 10 PM with international titles: the German Sentimental Stories<\/em><\/strong><\/a> by Xandra Popescu<\/strong>, Greek-British Scorched Earth<\/em><\/strong><\/a> by Markela Kontaratou<\/strong> and the Bulgarian Everything Tastes Strange Today<\/em><\/strong><\/a> by Kristina Spassovska<\/strong>, and Croatian short films from the Checkers program Short Cut Grass<\/em><\/strong><\/a> by David Ga\u0161o<\/strong> and I\u2019ll Be the First<\/em><\/strong><\/a> by Martina Marasovi\u0107<\/strong>. Kinoteka also screens ZFF\u2019s program for the youngest audience, KinoKino. Johannes Schmid\u2019s New Tales of Franz<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>(ages 7+), the second part of the detective serial about Franz \u2014 a great detective and smallest boy in his class \u2014 screens at 11 AM, and we will watch Nicole van Kilsdonok\u2019s Okthanksbye<\/em><\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(ages 10+), an adventure story about growing up, friendship, and family, at MSU at 4 PM.<\/p>\n
