This Sunday, 23 October, Zagreb autumn will once again be lit with the silver film glow \u2014 the anniversary edition of the Zagreb Film Festival <\/strong>opens in SC Cinema. This year\u2019s 8 days of ZFF will present 115 films from all over the world in 11 programs and host numerous prominent regional and international filmmakers.<\/p>\n

The focus of the main program is, as always, on debut and second films of authors from around the world, and this birthday edition is special thanks to a record number of local authors\u2019 debuts. The Croatian premiere of Safe Place<\/em><\/strong><\/a> by Juraj Leroti\u0107<\/strong> will open the festival at 8 PM in SC Cinema, alongside the director and film crew. From Tuesday to Thursday in the afternoon (1 PM) and evening (9 PM), we will screen premieres of domestic films: Carbide<\/em><\/strong><\/a> by Josip \u017duvan<\/strong>, Traces<\/em><\/strong><\/a> by Dubravka Turi\u0107<\/strong> and The Uncle<\/em><\/strong><\/a> by directors Kapac<\/strong> and Marde\u0161i\u0107<\/strong> which will be presented to the audience by the authors themselves.<\/p>\n

ZFF will bring a host of relevant names to Zagreb, from editor Cristiano Travaglioli<\/strong>, winner of the European Oscar behind Paolo Sorrentino\u2019s masterpieces, and Zlatko Buri\u0107<\/strong>, the Croatian-Danish actor (Pusher, Dirty Pretty Things, Quit Staring at My Plate, Triangle of Sadness<\/em>), who will hold masterclass lectures, to Colm Bair\u00e9ad,<\/strong> the Irish director who will present his debut film The Quiet Girl<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, an Irish language classical story which already melted many hearts.<\/p>\n

International guests will be joined by numerous regional and Croatian authors, actors and professionals, such as the Macedonian director Teona Struga Mitevska<\/strong> (The Happiest Man in the <\/em>Worl<\/em>d<\/em><\/strong><\/a>), director from Bosnia and Herzegovina Pjer \u017dalica <\/strong>(May Labour Day<\/em><\/a><\/strong>), whose film Fuse<\/em> opened the first edition of Zagreb Film Festival 20 years ago, Miki Manojlovi\u0107<\/strong> (The Uncle<\/em>), Ksenija Marinkovi\u0107, Marija \u0160kari\u010di\u0107 <\/strong>(Traces<\/em>), Ivana Ro\u0161\u010di\u0107<\/strong> (The Uncle, Carbide<\/em>), Goran Markovi\u0107 <\/strong>\u00a0and Snje\u017eana Sinov\u010di\u0107<\/strong> (Safe Place<\/em>) and many others.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s ZFF is a place where everyone will be able to find a film for themselves, from the revised story about the Empress Sisi (Corsage<\/em><\/strong><\/a>) and literary meditation on friendship (The Eight Mountains<\/em><\/strong><\/a>), to queer films, such as the Pakistani Oscar candidate Joyland<\/em><\/strong><\/a> and drama Wet Sand<\/em><\/strong><\/a>. European film lovers will be thrilled with ZFF\u2019s program Network of Festivals in the Adriatic Region which brings four films with peculiar and fresh stories to the Museum of Contemporary Art and online, from the fantastic bitter-sweet Romanian satire \u00centregalde<\/em><\/strong><\/a> by Radu Muntean which questions the limits of human kindness, to the charming Portuguese film about growing up, witchcraft and mourning Alma Viva<\/em><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The competition program of Zagreb Film Festival <\/strong>ends on Saturday with an awards ceremony and the screening of the award-winning film from Cannes, Triangle of Sadness<\/em><\/strong><\/a> by Ruben \u00d6stlund, while film screenings continue on Sunday, October 30. The festival will be held at five locations: in Tu\u0161kanac Cinema, SC Cinema, Kinoteka Cinema, and Dokukino KIC<\/strong>, as well as online platforms kinoeuropa.hr<\/strong><\/a> and croatian.film<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Zagreb Film Festival is financially supported by the City Office for Culture, International Relations and Civil Society, the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, Creative Europe – MEDIA sub-programme <\/strong>and the Zagreb Tourist Board<\/strong>.
