Actress Geraldine Chaplin<\/strong>, the special guest of the 16<\/span>th<\/span><\/sup> Zagreb Film Festival, is tonight joining the festival closing and the screening of <\/span>Anchor and Hope<\/i><\/span><\/strong>, a film in which she starred. Her arrival caused a big interest from the Croatian media with whom she met at Europa cinema. She revealed that the hardest thing was acting in comedies, despite the fact that she most enjoys comic roles.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI love comedy, but this is the hardest thing you can do, not only to actors, but also to the directors and writers,\u201d said Geraldine Chaplin, adding that one immediately sense if something is not right with comedy. In her career she collaborated with many important directors, such as Robert Altman, Martin Scorsese and David Lean. \u201cWhen I choose my projects, the director is the most important thing, it has to be someone whose work I know and admire, and otherwise it is all about the script, it\u2019s increasingly important, which is evident in TV projects as well,\u201d said Ms Chaplin.<\/span><\/p>\n

A lot has changed in cinema since she first appeared on the big screen, fifty years ago. \u201cNow you can make outstanding films even with a phone, but one thing has not changed \u2013 there is always a good director and a bad director, and I\u2019m just acting,\u201d she said. She perceives acting as learning about people and with every film she learns a lot about people and current issues.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always hated flags, borders and nationalism, and the older I get, the more often they appear in the world we live in. The times are not good, all kind of things happen with the planet. When I see all this, I\u2019m glad I\u2019m old, except when I\u2019m thinking about my children and grandchildren,\u201d said Geraldine Chaplin.<\/span><\/p>\n

The interview could not avoid the questions about her father Charlie Chaplin. The actress does not mind, even prefers them because, she says, she is very nervous when she has to talk about herself in interviews. \u201cTo me he was just a father, even a very strict one, old-fashioned, Victorian, but a bit of a vagrant. That\u2019s why I love him, as well as everything he made on film,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The film <\/span>Anchor and Hope<\/i><\/span> in which she plays a small part is an honest examination of modern love and family. Two lesbians live in a boathouse on London\u2019s canals and want a baby, but things change when one get pregnant. Geraldine Chaplin says the film is amazing and she will happily see it again at the closing of Zagreb Film festival. Of her collaboration with her daughter Oona Chaplin,<\/strong> who stars in the film, she says: \u201cShe is a brilliant actress and it was lovely working with her.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Geraldine Chaplin was recently on Brioni islands, filming the new film by Peter Brosens and Jessica Woodworth, <\/span>Barefoot Emperor<\/i><\/span><\/strong>. After reading the script she thought the film would not be fun, but it proved otherwise.
