What\u2019s the Story?\u00a0 is an intensive five-day script development workshop for a short film, held as a partnership between ZFF, Talents and Short Film Market (TSFM), Croatian Audiovisual Centre and North Macedonia Film Agency. Under the guidance of two experienced film professionals and associates of the TSFM \u2013 screenwriter and director Nolwenn Guiziou and editor Gabriele Alfieri, seven Croatian as well as one Macedonian filmmaker will develop their projects and present the results of the workshop at the final public pitching.<\/p>\n","custom_css_toggle":false,"custom_css":"","content":[{"acf_fc_layout":"grid","columns":[{"number":"","title":"Participants and Projects","description":"

His works include the popular music video for the song Eroe<\/em> by the Italian rapper Caparezza, the documentary film The Wrong Side of the Bridge<\/em> (2006) by Giorgio Carella and Paolo Cognetti, and the music documentary Il suono instabile della libert\u00e0<\/em> by Marco Bergamaschi and Gianpaolo Gelati (2010). Marko Bi\u010dani\u0107 (Zagreb, 1999) is a member of the association Blank_filmski inkubator, which is where he made his first short films and now runs film workshops for the youth. He is a first-year MFA student of feature film directing at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb. He works in various roles in film and television and is one of the authors of the web series Videobox<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Sunburn Paradise<\/em>
\n<\/strong>Alone during summer holidays in a coastal town, Petar is experiencing an emotional crisis. It was supposed to be a couple\u2019s retreat. His stay at the seaside intertwines with another narrative strand revealing the events leading up to this point: Petar comes across messages suggesting that his girlfriend Dorotea is cheating on him. One situation leads to the next, until the inevitable outcome.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tamara Bregovi\u0107 (Vara\u017edin, 1995) studied Media Design at the University North in Koprivnica. During her studies, she made three fiction shorts, including her graduation film. She participated in the School of Media Culture \u201cDr. Ante Peterli\u0107\u201d and various film workshops. Along with screenplays, she also writes short stories, mostly science fiction and horror. She lives in Sesvete.<\/p>\n

Sleigh Queens
\n<\/strong><\/em>It\u2019s the holiday season and five characters are spending their December each in their own way. Lucy doesn\u2019t really like the holidays, but she tries to please her boyfriend, who can\u2019t wait for Christmas; an elderly woman obsessively knits sweaters every year; a cute girl bakes Christmas cookies even though December is still far away… Little by little, bad things start to happen to all the Christmas enthusiasts. It\u2019s small things at first, but the situation quickly escalates. Is there a person behind it all or something far more sinister?<\/p>\n

Marija Georgiev is a film author and educator from Zagreb. She is studying screenwriting at the Academy of Dramatic Art. She is the program director of the Seventh Continent, a film education project for children and young people.<\/p>\n

2+2<\/em>
\n<\/strong>Even though they are separated and in new relationships, Kre\u0161o and Emina try to keep the family together for the sake of their eight-year-old son Marsel. The two couples, moreover, get along well. Well okay, well enough. They are happy to get together occasionally and celebrate Marsel\u2019s birthday. But the kid is becoming very interested in sex, and the adults\u2019 strategies for handling the issue are proving fundamentally different and difficult to reconcile.<\/p>\n

Ivan Grgur was born on the day Kokomo<\/em> by the Beach Boys toped the Billboard charts. He studied communicology and journalism in Venice, Trieste and Lisbon. After making his first documentary short, Probably Dead<\/em>, he enrolled in the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb. His graduation feature-length film, Men on the Island<\/em>, is currently in post-production.<\/p>\n

Asparagus Bear
\n<\/strong>In the sleepy coastal town of Umag, the uncommon bear sighting amid the wild asparagus season causes a media frenzy, dividing the community into sceptics and those who believe the bear is really out there. Following the chaos of this novel situation, the film explores the blurred boundaries between truth and lies in the age of social networks.<\/p>\n

Filip Lafazanovski is a Macedonian director and photographer. He graduated in film directing and also attended the Ateliers Varan and the Balkan Short Film Network workshops. He is currently working on several short film projects in development. Among them is Evergreen<\/em>, for which he won the Best International Pitch award at the ShorTS Developing & Pitching Training in Trieste. He exhibited his photographic works at more than 30 group and solo exhibitions.<\/p>\n

Malala<\/em>
\n<\/strong>Malala, the introverted 18-year-old Roma girl, needs one last document for her visa to start studying abroad \u2013 the results of a gynaecological examination. When she finally tells her mother about it, the two discover it is almost an impossible mission. In the Roma hospital, the only registered doctor resigned, and in the public hospital the exam is not permitted by law. On her way home, the frustrated Malala finds her scream in the middle of an unexpected civil protest.<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>A desperate atheist travels with his religious uncle to see a mystical exorcist in the hope of ridding himself of an inexplicable sense of dread that haunts him. Witnessing someone else\u2019s exorcism will challenge his disbelief of the supernatural.<\/p>\n

He has a Master\u2019s degree in biology, holds guest lectures at design studies and is a member of the Croatian Film Directors’ Guild (DHFR).<\/p>\n

Vespa
\n<\/strong><\/em>This eco-horror fable follows the parents\u2019 struggle to protect their allergy-prone daughter from the attacks of a young hornet and the hornet queen \u2013 both insects of the Vespa<\/em> genus.<\/p>\n

Ivan Velja\u010da (Zagreb, 1984) graduated in Product Design from the Faculty of Architecture in Zagreb. He works as production designer on domestic and foreign feature films and TV series. The first feature film he worked on was Dalibor Matani\u0107\u2019s Mother of Asphalt<\/em>. He also tried his hand as a director of music videos for young Croatian bands, while his directorial debut came with short fiction film Polenta<\/em>(2015), for which he also penned the script.<\/p>\n

At the Table<\/em>
\n<\/strong>Ivan, a man in his late thirties, spends Sunday lunch with his elderly parents. The relationship between the overzealous mother, the rigid father and the grown son who has a hard time being an adult is based on mutual passive aggression. Provoked by his parents\u2019 behaviour, the floodgates of Ivan\u2019s emotions suddenly break down.<\/p>\n
